Dr. Marissa Soisson joined Brewer Eye Associates in November of 2016. During her time at the practice, she has enjoyed integrating herself into the community and developing a rapport with both patients and staff.
Dr. Soisson was born in Pittsburgh and raised in the neighboring suburbs. Since her early high school years, she had planned on working in the medical field. In 2008, she began her studies at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she majored in Biology. During her undergraduate work, Dr. Soisson was an active member of the Duquesne student radio program, where she co-hosted a weekly show. She additionally participated in a local chapter of a human rights coalition and volunteered with a city clean-up group.
In 2012, Dr. Soisson formally began her optometric studies at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Elkins Park, PA. At Salus University, she gained clinical experience through internships in a variety of settings, including three private practices, the Altoona VA Hospital, and The Eye Institute of Philadelphia. At The Eye Institute, she was able to foster her interest in low vision diagnosis and treatment by studying in the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Soisson obtained her Doctor of Optometry Degree in 2016.
Dr. Soisson takes a great deal of pride in providing a high quality and personal eye exam for every patient. She has been told that she has a friendly and caring personality, and she works to ensure that patients leave the office feeling satisfied and happy with their experience. She enjoys meeting specific vision needs through the prescription of glasses and contacts, and she also cares for the health of the eye by screening for ocular disease, making any applicable diagnosis, and helping to initiate a treatment plan.
In her spare time, Dr. Soisson enjoys reading on a variety of subjects and likes to compose poems and short stories. She also has an interest in photography and film. During breaks from work, she finds it very important to visit her friends and family, many of whom are scattered throughout the state and country. She is also a big fan of animals and hopes to rescue a dog or cat in the near future.
