Fun and Safe Toys for the Holidays

The holidays are almost here which means presents. Well meaning relatives delight in treating the young ones to the ''in'' toys for the holidays.
Leading optometry specialists advise that family members learn and relay to others the guidelines about toy safety and vision. Injuries involving toys and games often occur, sometimes causing damaged vision.

What can parents do to protect small kids from toy related injury?

  1. When purchasing a toy, ensure it is age appropriate. Don't permit little children to handle toys and games intended for older siblings.

  2. Check that the toy is well made and look for any dangerous corners. Make sure stick toys such as bats or pony sticks are rounded on the edge.

  3. Look after little kids during playtime.

  4. Promote eye safety awareness by throwing out toys with points, spikes, rods or projectiles.

Before buying that new toy or game that your child has been begging for, spend some time to look over toy safety guidelines. Anyone who has ever watched ''A Christmas Story'' should have learned that already. Happy Holidays.
